News7/21/2010 Midwest members donate $13,500 to charitiesMembers of Midwest Electric recently donated $13,500 to 10 west-central Ohio charities and community projects through the cooperative's Community Connection Fund. Since the program began in 1998, the Midwest Electric Community Connection Fund has provided $606,157 to 423 area projects. The recent Fund recipients include the following: - The Equestrian Therapy Program, Lima, $2,000 to help fund horse riding sessions for children with disabilities. - Holy Rosary School, St. Marys, $2,000 to buy books and other learning materials. - Ft. Recovery Ambassador Club, $1,900 to purchase Civil War re-enactment special effects for the school program. - Ft. Recovery Band Boosters, $1,900 to buy new band uniforms. - Joint Township Hospital Foundation, St. Marys, $1,600 to pay for free prostate screenings for 200 men. - Delphos Canal Commission, $1,000 to update the lighting in display windows. - American Red Cross - Auglaize County, $953 for a new laptop computer and printer. - Miss West Central Ohio Scholarship, $900 towards scholarship funds. - Riverside Art Center, Wapakoneta, $847 for a wireless security system. - Spencerville Historical Society, $400 to help with a sidewalk for the log cabin project. The Midwest Electric Community Connection Fund is a voluntary charitable program. Participating members' monthly electric bills are rounded up to the next dollar, with the additional pennies deposited in the Fund. A Board of Trustees, composed of cooperative members and separate from the Midwest Electric Board of Trustees, oversees the application and allocation process.
