Electric Rates & Fees

Deposits

All new customers have the option to pay either a $150 deposit, or provide a credit reference letter from your prior electric utility. You can avoid the deposit if the reference letter shows no late payments in the past 24 months. Your deposit with Midwest Electric is refunded to you following 24 consecutive months of no late payments.

Meter Fees & Charges

$20 Late Meter Reading Fee: This fee is required when customers fail to provide the cooperative with a meter reading for two consecutive months and a co-op employee must be sent to your home to secure a reading.

$65 Meter Test Fee: This fee is charged to a customer who requests a meter test. Upon testing the meter, the cooperative retains the fee if the test results show meter accuracy to be within plus or minus two percent of accuracy range. Should test results reveal meter registration of more than 102 percent of test equipment, the fee will be refunded and a billing adjustment made to customer's account.

Seasonal Rates

Our seasonal rate is the same as the residential rate, with billing every month.

Our commercial and industrial rates are very competitive and vary depending on customer load profile and other factors. Please contact us for a quote.

Residential Rates

Our residential electric rate is $0.072 per kilowatt hour (kWh). Included in your rate is a $20 per month Service Charge to help pay for fixed costs such as the poles, wires, meter, transformer, generating capacity and other items needed to ensure that electric service is available when you need it. Our rate also includes the state's kWh tax plus a Power Cost Adjustment that fluctuates monthly based on our generating fuel cost and our power supply demand cost. So on average, as of May 2006, all of that equals out to about $0.072 per kWh, or 7.2 cents per kWh, plus the $20 monthly service charge.

Remember, the $20 is charged regardless of how much electricity is used - even if no electricity is used. So for each additional kilowatt hour, or each incremental kilowatt hour, you are paying 7.2 cents per kWh. So if you're averaging out your bill to determine your "per kWh" cost, be sure to NOT include the $20 service charge. Look at it this way: If you have a propane water heater, you're already paying the $20 service charge. So if you switch to an electric water heater, you're only paying 7.2 cents for those additional kilowatt hours...so the cost to run that water heater is only 7.2 cents per kWh.

We also offer an off-peak rate for customers who use electricity as the primary energy source for their home heating needs. This rate is a 1.5 cent per kWh discount off our regular rate! Customers on this rate pay 7.2 cents per kWh for the first 750 kWh each month, 5.7 cents per kWh for the next 2,000 kWh, and 7.2 cents per kWh for all additional kWh.

Collection Fees & Charges

There are certain fees and charges that apply to all Midwest Electric, Inc. customers:

$30 Collection Service Charge: This fee is charged when Midwest Electric personnel must visit a customer's residence to collect on a delinquent account.

$30 Non-Pay Reconnect Fee: A reconnect fee is required when a customer's service is disconnected for nonpayment, and reconnection is made during regular working hours.

$95 After-Hours Reconnect Fee: This fee is charged for reconnection done after regular working hours.

$25 Bad Check Fee (NSF): This fee is required for any check returned by the bank on which it is drawn for non-sufficient funds.
