Water HeatersAlthough rebates end Jan. 1, 2007, we will continue our popular discounted electric heating rate for qualifying homes with an air source or geothermal heat pump and electric water heater with our free peak reducer. Did you know that propane is a by-product of crude oil? That means if you use propane for your water heater or to heat your home, your hard-earned money could be going to foreign countries. Sure, the propane is created in America. But it's created from imported crude oil. By contrast, electricity from Midwest Electric is created in Ohio, USA, from American coal, meeting tough environmental standards. Plus, electricity from Midwest Electric is simply more economical than propane. Compared to our electric rates, you would have to buy propane for less than $1.31 per gallon in order for propane to be the lowest cost water heating option. And you would have to find propane for well under $1.00 per gallon in order for a propane furnace to be competitive with a heat pump or geothermal system. Call us today for a detailed BTU cost analysis of your next water heater or heating system. Do America and your family budget a favor, and get off the propane price roller coaster! Save money with a new electric water heater. It's more efficient and economical to have an electric water heater (on Midwest Electric rates). You will save money with lower energy bills, compared to propane. If you would like more information about our reduced heating rate or other programs click here. To qualify, your Midwest Electric account must be your primary residence; seasonal accounts do not qualify. Dual Fuel (Air-Source Heat Pump) ProgramReduced Electric Heating RateYou can save hundreds of dollars a year in heating costs just by using an air-source heat pump along with your propane, gas or fuel oil furnace. Many of our members who want central air conditioning to go with their gas furnace are making it an air-source heat pump instead of central air. They get the air conditioning with the heat pump, plus a more efficient heating system! With the efficiency savings and reduced electric rate you will quickly recover the initial cost difference between central air and a heat pump. The discounted rate applies for an energy efficient air-source heatpump, working with an electric, gas, oil or propane backup furnace. The heat pump will provide all of the air-conditioning, plus provide a very efficient heating source. At about 30 degrees outdoor temperature, an outdoor thermostat will automatically shut off the heat pump and turn on the backup furnace. To qualify for the reduced electric rate, you must have an electric water heater with our load management switch. Also, this must be your primary residence; seasonal accounts do not qualify. Call for details. What Heat Pump Users Say About Heat PumpsMidwest Electric in December 2006 surveyed its members who have an air source heat pump. The main results...

Midwest Electric recently surveyed all members who have geothermal heating and cooling to determine their satisfaction with comfort, performance and savings. The cooperative identified 299 members who have geothermal. Of those, 188 returned the survey. The results are as follows: The average age of their geothermal system is 9.03 years. The oldest is 30 years. When asked, "How satisfied are you with the cooling performance of your geothermal system," members report 99 percent satisfaction ratings. Specifically, 87 percent are very satisfied, 12 percent are satisfied, 0 percent are dissatisfied, and 1 percent are very dissatisfied. When asked, "How satisfied are you with the heating performance of your geothermal system," members report 97 percent satisfaction ratings. Specifically, 70 percent are very satisfied, 27 percent are satsified, 3 percent are dissatisfied, and 0 percent are very dissatisfied. 45 percent have electric for backup heat, 44 percent have propane for backup heat, 7 percent have natural gas for backup, and 4 percent said other. 89 percent have their geothermal system connected to their water heater, so it provides about 40 percent of their water heating needs at no cost as a natural by-product of the geothermal process. Compared to a typical furnace, 85 percent said geothermal has provided their family with "significant savings," 14 percent said "minor savings," and 1 percent said "no savings." When asked, "If you had to make the choice today, would you select geothermal again," 99 percent said yes and 1 percent said no. When asked, "Are the benefits of geothermal worth the initial investment," 98 percent said yes and 2 percent said no. NOTE: All heating/cooling system reduced rates require an electric water heater with load management switch also be installed. To qualify, your Midwest Electric account must be your primary residence; seasonal accounts do not qualify. And a free peak reducer is also installed on the geothermal system. For all heat pump, geothermal and electric heat rates: Any ductwork through unconditioned space or an unfinished basement must have a sealed, insulated supply air duct system. Power Surge ProtectionIn every home, costly electronic equipment is at risk. High on the list of "at-risk" equipment are personal computers, televisions, VCRs, microwave ovens and telephone answering machines. From outside your home, lightning can cause enormous spikes on the electrical lines. But there are dozens of sources inside the home too. In fact, 80 percent of all power surges are produced by your own equipment in your home. Spikes are created by washers, fans, air conditioners, shop tools, refrigerators, motors, mixers or virtually any electrical appliance that can be turned on and off. Midwest Electric offers its customers what we consider to be the best surge suppressor equipment available. Our program offers high quality surge suppression devices, including a variety of plug strips, a meter base unit and a panel mount unit. We can offer you different protection packages, depending on the number and types of household electronics you have. Choose from individual plug strips or a whole-house protection system featuring a protective meter base unit plus a package of plug strips. Maybe the best reason to choose power surge protection from Midwest Electric is the lifetime limited warranty. Should you encounter equipment damage, we offer protection up to $25,000.
