ScholarshipsMidwest Electric has two scholarship programs: Our General Scholarship for high-performing students; and our Touchstone Energy Achievement Scholarship. General ScholarshipEach spring, Midwest Electric gives $4,500 in scholarships to high school seniors whose parents are customers of the cooperative, plus the Touchstone Energy Achievement Scholarship below. (The parents must be year-round full-time residents of the cooperative; seasonal members do not qualify.) The top male and female winners also compete for an additional $23,640 in scholarships from Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives. Eligible students, with a minimum cumulative 3.5 grade point average, will receive an interview at the Midwest Electric office in March. (The minimum GPA is 2.75 for the Touchstone Energy scholarship.) Following the interviews, our judging teams will select six finalists - three male and three female students - to compete for $4,500 in scholarships from Midwest Electric. Judging for the six top students will take place later in March. The first place male and female students will represent Midwest Electric and compete against high school seniors from around the state at the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives scholarship competition in May in Columbus. Completed applications and grade transcripts must be received in our office usually around early February. Contact our office for details and deadlines. Touchstone Energy Achievement ScholarshipAlso each spring, Midwest Electric will award $1,000 to one high school senior for the Touchstone Scholarship. The minimum cumulative grade point average is 2.75. Students are judged on how well their activities reflect the Touchstone Energy core values of accountability, integrity, innovation and commitment to community, as well as their drive and dedication to achieving a college education despite any personal obstacles or special challenges they've faced. The Midwest Electric Touchstone Scholarship recipient will then compete in Columbus on April 27, 2010, for one of four $1,630 awards. To qualify, your parents must be customers of the cooperative. (The parents must be year-round full-time residents of the cooperative; seasonal members do not qualify.) Other rules apply. Completed applications, grade transcripts and letters of support (see below) must be received in our office usually around early February. Contact our office for details and deadlines.
