From Holiday Frustration to Home Decor Innovation

Re-Framed Home Brings a Fresh Magnetic Approach to Wall Decor

Re-Framed HomeWhat started as holiday decorating frustration has grown into a patented product and thriving small business for siblings Lindsay McHenry and Johnathan Ranly, the co-owners, and Midwest members behind Re-Framed Home.

For Lindsay, the idea was born in late 2023 while decorating her home for Christmas. Like many parents, she wanted updated family photos and seasonal décor without the hassle of replacing entire frames or patching new holes in the wall. “I just wanted my pictures to be festive,” Lindsay says. “But it was a giant pain.”

Traditional frames didn’t fit the existing space she had, and swapping photos meant taking frames down, changing everything out and rehanging them. Certain a solution already existed, Lindsay searched online, but kept coming up empty. Re-Framed Home

That’s when she brought the idea to her brother and business partner, Johnathan Ranly, an engineer who quickly saw potential. “This maybe isn’t the first ‘genius’ invention I’ve pitched to him,” Lindsay jokes. “But the fact that it wasn’t met with eye rolls, and he agreed I was onto something was a step in the right direction.”

Jonathan got to work transforming the concept into reality. Within a week, the siblings had their first prototype. Within a month, they had formed a business and filed for a patent. Today, that once-simple idea has become a patented innovation.

Re-Framed Home’s magnetic frame system allows customers to change artwork or photographs in seconds without removing the frame from the wall. Prints magnetically attach to the frame, and a quick-release tool makes swapping designs fast and easy.

Customers can choose from both custom and pre-designed prints. About half of the company’s orders feature personal photos of families, children, pets and special memories, while others mix custom images with seasonal or decorative artwork.

The prints themselves are designed with convenience in mind. They are fingerprint-friendly, easy to clean, UV resistant and simple to store flat or along a wall until the next seasonal switch.Re-Framed Home

What began as a home décor solution has expanded beyond living rooms and family galleries. Customers now use Re-Framed Home products everywhere from shelf displays to full gallery walls. Businesses has also embraced the concept. Recently, a renovated facility in North Carolina outfitted its three-story building with interchangeable corporate artwork and branded messaging.

“It’s a unique option for companies who have frequent brand changes and updates,” Lindsays says. “Once you’ve got the frames, all you need is a new print.”

While the patent process took about 28 months, Lindsay says most of the time involved waiting. With Jonathan proving the technical drawings and a patent attorney handling communication with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the journey proved manageable and deeply rewarding.

From their first order to selling more than 1,000 frames, the siblings have celebrated every milestone. “Every little thing has felt like something to celebrate,” Lindsay says.

One of her favorite moments comes during events when visitors walk into the booth already familiar with the product. Re-Framed Home

“To see so many people have our frames and keep coming back for more prints is so rewarding,” she said. “To see others love it as much as we do makes it all worth it.”

Through Re-Framed Home now ships to roughly 15 states, local support remains at the heart of is success. Lindsay credits hometown customers for helping the business grow and continues to focus on expanding through pop-up events, social media, and partnerships with fellow small businesses. “The sky is the limit,” Lindsay says, “We’re not slowing down any time soon.”
